The Room
The Deekons Works selected to be part of the 'One World' show were set up in a particular arrangement as explained below. |
|
 |
I. Welcome To My World: An Introduction
Placed closest to the entrance, 'Enter My World' is an extensive sequence of notably fast-sliding images presented on a television monitor. The fast slide show is a collection of selected (visual) works that Th. Loa. has been producing over the past years.
II. Inside My World: Inside My Head (The Subject)
'Inside My Head' is set up in the very center area of the room, as one could regard it as being the Mecca in the show, and is presented on five television screens arranged to emulate the shape of a pentagon. 'Inside My Head' is an Audio and Visual work. The Visual could be termed as an 'animated surrealist portrait' of the Subject (the author himself); while the Audio, which is intently not sync to the Visual, however cohesive and complementary to the Visual, is a work of sounds in which the Subject expresses his mind state vocally.
III. Watch The Outer World: True Visual Stories
Projected on the far back wall of the room is 'True Visual Stories', a Net (Art) installation work that aims at presenting the World-Out-There to the viewers. The work consists of thematic segments that switch from one another in time interval. For each segment, the computer feeds on the resourceful Internet - various reliable online sources - for amassing images that are pertinent to the current segment's theme, and therefore builds an image grid, all in real time, in front of the audience's eyes. The author of the work believes that the Internet -- the Cyber World as named by some -- has become an unequivocal reflection (mirror) of the present World, the real World, the World out there. The themes of the segments were thoughtfully and intently chosen by The Son Creature; however, the image content is coming live from the Internet and is not controlled by him.
The four thematic segments chosen for the 'One World 2006' show were: One World, Middle East, Natural Disasters, and North American Weather Satellite Report.
The Dual-Projection version of the work was presented at the show.
An interesting fact was that some of the internet sources for the piece couldn't be accessed due to government internet ban and regulation.
IV. Meet The Characters: The Protagonists and The Others
Displayed on the side walls of the room are visual artworks selected for the context of the show, for introducing and presenting to the audience some of the key characters in The Deekons World. They are: The Guardian, The Father, The Son Creature, The Newborns (Adam and Eve), and Them (The Others). |
